CSR intrinsically motivated

In the week of 6 April 2009, Dutch bank ING published a report on CSR in the garment industry. CSR, the researchers concluded, is hardly ever the result of external pressure, but rather motivated by the entrepreneurs’ own conviction.

Some 75% of the respondents indicated that CSR is important to very important to them. For most of them, the primary motivation is their personal beliefs concerning good business practice. A second factor was a ‘better image’, along with an enhancement of market opportunities, especially in the area of quality and innovation.
